If you are unsure of what design to choose for your project, we recommend that you order a sample first.

Follow these steps to calculate how much self-adhesive vinyl a project requires:

1. Measure the width of the surface including the edges you would like to cover. Add 8cm for the excess trim. This determines the width of the roll you require (eg 54cm wide surface + 8cm trim = 62cm. Round this up to the closest roll width which is a 67.5cm wide roll).
2. Measure the length of all surfaces including the edges you would like to cover and add 8cm of excess trim for each surface. This determines how many meters you need. (e.g 170cm + 8cm = 178cm (1.78m). Round this up to the closes roll length which is a 2m long roll.
3. The standard sizes of the rolls are 2m and 15m. It is best to use one length for each surface. If you need to add two pieces together then our wood grain designs will hide the joins the best.
4. We always recommend to add a bit extra than what you need as sometimes mistakes happen, although we prefer to call them practice rounds.
5. If you are unsure, we are always happy to help. Please send us your images and measurements of each surface.

How much do I need? (1.22m Wide Roll)

Unlike standard rolls, our 1.22m width allows you to cover deep surfaces without joining strips together.

• Standard Benchtop (60cm deep):
  For a 2m long bench, you only need 2 meters. The 1.22m width is enough to cover the top and wrap underneath the front edge comfortably. You can even use the off-cut for splashbacks!
• Kitchen Island / Breakfast Bar (up to 1.2m deep):
  Perfect for islands! Measure the length of your island and order that amount. (e.g., for a 2.5m long island, order 3 meters to be safe).
• Dining Table:
  Most tables are 90cm-1m wide. Our 1.22m width covers this in one go. Just measure the length of your table and add 20cm for wrapping ends.
• Fridge:
  A standard fridge is approx 60cm-90cm wide. You can cover the full front face seamlessly with one length. Order 2 meters for a standard tall fridge.

For a professional result, we recommend:

• Cleaning: Grease remover (e.g., isopropyl alcohol) and a lint-free towel/sponge.
• Prep: Sandpaper (100-180 grit) for smoothing rough surfaces.
• Primer (Optional): 3M Tape Primer 94 is recommended for raw wood, complex curves, or to ensure a permanent bond on edges.
• Application: Tape measure, sharp craft knife (or "miLock" style cutter), and a squeegee/scraper.
• Finishing: Heat gun or hairdryer (essential for softening vinyl around corners and 3D shapes)

To achieve the best result we recommend that the adhesive vinyl is applied with our application kit. The applicator has a velvet edge which gives a smooth application that won't damage the surface.

Application Instructions

1. Surface Preparation (Crucial Step)
Ensure the surface is smooth, hard, and clean.

• For Wood/MDF/Plaster: If the surface is rough, use 100-180 grit sandpaper to polish it smooth, then clean away all dust. If there are deep holes or imperfections, fill them with putty first.
• Cleaning: Wipe down the entire area with alcohol to remove any grease or oil.

2. Primer (Optional but Recommended)
For the best longevity, especially on edges or porous surfaces (like plywood), apply a thin coat of 3M Tape Primer 94.

• Focus on the corners and the underside of the benchtop where the vinyl will be wrapped and tucked away.

3. Positioning & Peeling

• Cut the vinyl to size, leaving 2-5cm extra on all sides.
• Peel back the release liner about 5-10cm from the top.
• Stick this exposed section to your surface to anchor it in place.

4. Squeegee Technique

• Slowly pull the backing paper away with one hand while using the squeegee with the other.
• Hold the squeegee at a 45-degree angle to avoid bubbles and work from the center outwards.

5. Joining Seams (For L-Shaped Benchtops)
For L-shaped counters or surfaces wider than 122cm, you will need to join two sheets.

• Overlap: Place the two sheets so they overlap by approximately 3-5cm.
• Cut: Use a ruler to guide your knife and cut firmly down the centre of the overlap. You must cut through both layers of vinyl at once.
• Remove Waste: Peel away the cut strip from the top layer. Then, lift the edge slightly to remove the cut strip from the bottom layer.
• Finish: Smooth the seam down with your squeegee. Because the two edges now match perfectly, the join will be flush and nearly invisible.

6. Wrapping Edges & 3D Shapes

• Heat is Key: Use a heat gun to warm the vinyl. This makes it soft and pliable.
• Pull & Wrap: While warm, pull the vinyl firmly over the edge and underneath the benchtop.
• Secure: Press firmly. Ideally, wrap 2-5cm of vinyl underneath the surface for a secure hold.

Maintenance & Removal

• Cleaning: Use a soft cloth with water and a neutral detergent (pH roughly 3-11). Avoid organic solvents, thinners, or strong acidic/alkaline cleaners as they can damage the surface.
• Removal: If you need to remove the vinyl later, use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm and soften the film. Cut the film into 20cm strips and peel them off slowly. Any adhesive residue can be removed with a solvent cleaner.
