Adhesive Vinyl - FAQs

Preparation & Selection

You can apply the film to almost any clean, dust-free, and grease-free flat surface.

  • Ideal Surfaces: Wood, laminate, flat glass, metal, plastic, marble, primed MDF, and painted walls.
  • Surfaces to Avoid: Damp or dirty surfaces, brick or stone walls, deep embossed glass, and raw (untreated) MDF or chipboard.
  • Special Note: If applying vinyl to porous surfaces like plasterboard, raw wood, or plywood, we recommend applying a primer or sealer first to ensure a strong long-term bond. Uneven surfaces may need to be puttied and sanded smooth before application.

Yes. You can use both ranges in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundries.

  • Sealing is Key: We highly recommend sealing all edges with silicone to prevent water from penetrating the adhesive bond.
  • Benchtops: For wet areas like benchtops, the 122cm wide TGA vinyl is superior as it eliminates seams where water could ingress.

Both d-c-fix® and our TGA® Architectural range are primarily designed for interior use.

  • Lifespan: You can use them outdoors, but due to exposure to UV, rain, and temperature changes, the expected lifespan is approximately 1–3 years.
  • Protection: The material may fade or become brittle over time. If used outdoors, you must seal the edges to prevent moisture from lifting the film.

Yes. We highly recommend ordering samples first to test adhesion and view the true colour and texture in your lighting conditions.

  • Note on Colour: While we ensure our images are accurate, colours vary by screen.
  • Batch Variation: There may be slight colour variations between different production batches. We recommend ordering all the film required for your project at once to ensure it comes from the same batch.

Please note that since the TGA film is cut to size, we don't accept returns.

Measure the length and width of your surface.

Add 6–8cm to each dimension (reserve about 2-5cm on each side for trimming).

Select your Roll:

d-c-fix®: Available in 45cm, 67.5cm, and 90cm widths. Best for standard cupboards and small tables.

TGA Architectural: Available in 122cm width. Best for wide benchtops, dining tables, and large islands (calculated by the linear meter).

Check ourdetailed guide on how to measure here

Heat & Resistance: d-c-fix® can withstand temperatures up to 75°C, while TGA Architectural is rated B1 for fire resistance. Both are water and alcohol-resistant.

Staining: Avoid leaving foods with strong colouring (like turmeric, curry spices, ground coffee, food colouring, and tomato sauce) on the surface, as they may stain it just like they would a painted surface.

Care: Do not place hot items directly from the stove onto the surface (a cup of tea is usually fine). Always use cutting boards and trivets, and avoid dragging heavy or sharp objects across the vinyl.

Yes. Since all our films are printed, there might be a small colour variation between production batches, which is usually not noticeable.

  • Recommendation: We strongly recommend you order all the film you require for the project at the same time. This ensures your rolls are picked from the same batch and match perfectly.

Product Specifications

d-c-fix® (Standard):

Widths: 45cm, 67.5cm, 90cm.

Lengths: Pre-packaged rolls of 2/2.1m, 5m or 15m.

TGA (Architectural Grade):

Width: 1220mm (122cm).

Length: Sold by the meter (cut to size) up to 50m continuous lengths.

d-c-fix®: No. These are pre-packaged rolls and cannot be split or resized.

TGA Architectural: Yes. We cut this vinyl to your required length (by the meter), so you don't have to buy a full roll if you only need a specific amount.

d-c-fix®: Approximately 0.1mm (similar to writing paper).

TGA Architectural: 0.2mm. This extra thickness makes it more durable and better at hiding minor imperfections in the underlying surface.

d-c-fix®: Heat resistant up to 75°C for short periods. It is not fire rated.

TGA Architectural: Rated B1 Level for Fire Resistance. This meets higher safety standards for commercial and public spaces.

Recommendation: For both types, always use trivets or hot pads for hot pots and pans.

Our vinyls are manufactured to high safety standards (free from heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates), but they are not certified as "food grade" commercial surfaces.

  • Advice: Treat them as a decorative finish. Always use a chopping board and do not place food directly on the surface.

d-c-fix®: Made of monomeric calendered PVC film. The adhesive is water-based acrylic and solvent-free. The backing paper is 60 g/m² printed with a grid for easy cutting.

TGA Architectural: Made of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin with an acrylic resin pressure-sensitive adhesive.

d-c-fix®: The adhesive is solvent-free, free from heavy metals, and printed with water-based ink. It is light-fast (DIN EN ISO 105-B02) and abrasion-resistant. When used as specified, it is safe even for children's rooms.

TGA Architectural: Complies with the REACH European Standard and is free from heavy metals (Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, etc.). It is also tested free of formaldehyde and phthalates.

d-c-fix® is manufactured in Germany.
TGA® is manufactured in China.

Application Guide

Essentials: Tape measure, sharp craft knife, squeegee/scraper, and a clean towel or sponge.

Preparation: Sandpaper (#100-180) for smoothing rough substrates.

Heating: A hairdryer or a heat gun/heater to shape the vinyl around edges and curves.

Place the film in front of you with the printed grid system up. Use the grids for straight lines and mark with a pen your required shape. Allow for about 5cm extra on each side as it may be tricky to place the film exactly where you want it to be. The extra centimetres can easily be cut off with your sharp knife once the film is applied to your chosen surface.

Clean: Ensure the surface is completely clean and dry.

Position: Place the film on the surface with the backing paper attached, leaving an overhang on all edges.

Peel & Stick: Gently peel away a small section of the backing paper (about 5-10cm). Stick this exposed edge to your surface.

Smooth: Use your squeegee to smooth the film down, working from the centre outwards to push out air bubbles.

Continue: Slowly pull the backing paper away (20-30cm at a time) with one hand while smoothing the film with the other. Do not peel off all the backing at once.

Trim: Once applied, use a sharp knife to trim the excess overhang.

Edges: Use a hairdryer or heat gun to warm the film. This activates the adhesive and makes the vinyl pliable, helping it bond firmly to thin edges.

Curved/3D Surfaces: The TGA vinyl is specifically designed for this. Coat the primer on the surface first. Heat the film to soften it, then firmly stretch and mold it over the curve. Be careful not to overstretch

Check out our installtion videos on how to do shape the vinyl here.

If your surface is wider than the roll:

  • Basic Method for d-c-fix: Overlap the two pieces by 2–5cm (like wallpaper).
  • Seamless Method (Double Cut) for TGA vinyl only: For a professional finish, overlap the pieces, then cut through both layers in the middle of the overlap using a ruler and sharp knife. Remove the excess strip from the top and the waste strip from underneath to create a perfect flush joint.

Squeegee: If the bubble is near the edge, push the air out with your squeegee.

Lift: If recently applied, gently lift the film back to the bubble and re-apply.

Pop: For stubborn bubbles, prick them with a fine needle or the tip of your knife and smooth the air out through the hole.

There are two common methods for these obstacles:

  1. Four-Piece Method: Cut the vinyl into four separate strips to apply around the perimeter of the stove or sink. Create a small overlap where the pieces meet to prevent gaps.
  2. Cut-Out Method: Cut a hole for the sink or stove before you apply the large sheet. Make the hole slightly smaller than the fixture so you can trim off the excess vinyl for a perfect finish once applied.
  • Important: Always seal the edges around sinks and stoves with silicone to prevent water ingress.

For further tips check out our full benchtop wrapping guide.

Method: Use a hairdryer or a heat gun to warm the vinyl. This softens the material, allowing you to press it firmly into the grooves and shape it to the profile.

Pro Tip: The TGA Architectural vinyl is specifically engineered for 3D wrapping, making it the superior choice for complex shaped doors.

Care & Maintenance

Clean with warm soapy water or a mild synthetic detergent using a soft cloth or sponge.

  • Avoid: Abrasive scrubbers, organic solvents (like thinners/acetone), and strong acidic (pH <3) or alkaline (pH >11) cleaners.
  • Stain Resistance: TGA vinyl is resistant to common stains like coffee, wine, juice, and ketchup, but spills should be wiped up promptly.

Cut: Make cuts about 20cm apart in the film (be careful not to damage the substrate).

Heat: Use a hairdryer or heat gun to warm the surface and soften the adhesive.

Peel: Slowly pull the film away in strips.

Residue: Remove any remaining sticky residue with warm soapy water, ethanol, or a citrus-based glue remover (use lacquer thinner for TGA on resistant substrates).
Note: Removal from flaky paint or untreated surfaces may cause minor lifting.
