How to select the adhesive vinyl for your project

How to select the adhesive vinyl for your project

Cupboards

Vinyl wrapping your cupboards is a cost-effective way to renovate your kitchen. While any of our designs are suitable, some are more popular than others. Most customers choose between plain matte or glossy colours or a wood grain design. The matte vinyl collection is the thinnest and is only recommended for completely smooth surfaces without imperfections. The glossy collection is slightly thicker, hides imperfections better, and is easier to clean. The wood grain collection has an embossed finish that looks and feels like real wood, making it ideal for surfaces with bumps or other imperfections that can't be completely flattened before installation.

For medium to large kitchens, we recommend the 67.5cm x 15m rolls, which cover more area with less wastage. If you are only covering a few cupboards, the 2m rolls may suffice. Our most popular selections for kitchens are white and black (in both matte and glossy) and oak wood grain vinyl. Additionally, new on-trend colors from our matte collections are always in high demand and often sell out quickly.

Many customers wonder if they should cover the inside of their cupboards. Generally, we do not find it necessary unless your cupboards are frequently left open or the interior color is particularly unappealing.

Benchtops

Vinyl wrapping an old benchtop is an easy and affordable way to rejuvenate it. The vinyl is easy to install, water and alcohol-resistant, and can withstand temperatures up to 75°C. A standard benchtop is usually 60cm wide, making our 67.5cm rolls ideal. If your benchtop is shorter than 2m, the 2m rolls are sufficient. To avoid seams, opt for a 15m roll for larger kitchens. The most popular designs are from our marble and stone collection, followed by the wood grain collection. To prolong the life of your vinyl, use pot protectors and cutting boards, lift objects instead of shuffling them, and seal the edges around the hob, sink, and taps with silicone.

Vanity

Adhesive vinyl is resistant to bathroom humidity, making it perfect for giving your vanity a new look. Usually, a couple of 45cm x 2m rolls are enough to cover the door fronts, drawers, and side panels. Depending on the width of your vanity top, choose either a 45cm or 67.5cm wide roll. Seal any edges with silicone to ensure durability.

Drawers

If you have an old drawer that looks tired or doesn’t match your desired aesthetic, consider wrapping it with vinyl instead of replacing the whole unit. A fresh surface can make a big difference, and you can easily mix and match designs. Usually, a couple of 2m rolls are enough for this project.

Tables

Applying vinyl on top of a table is a quick and easy project that can change the entire look and make it easier to clean. This can be done on dinner tables, coffee tables, square and round tables, and even glass indoor and outdoor tables. Popular designs for this purpose include plain colors, wood grain, and marble and stone collections. Choose the right-sized vinyl for your table.

Surfaces Wider than 90cm

For surfaces wider than 90cm, we recommend using a wood grain design. The join can be easily hidden and is less noticeable. Apply the smallest piece closest to the wall or furthest from where you usually stand, then apply the second piece with a 3-5mm overlap. This way, the eye will overlook the join.

FAQs about Adhesive Vinyl

We can unfortunately not create any custom designs. The vinyl is delivered to us straight from the manufacturer in ready packaged rolls and roll sizes. Our warehouse is not equiped for splitting any rolls.

Yes the adhesive vinyl is both water and heat resistant to high temperatures making it suitable for both bathrooms and kitchens. If the vinyl is used in a wet area we recommend sealing all edges with silicone. The vinyl is easy to wipe clean.

The d-c-fix vinyl is designed to be removable without causing significant damage to the surface.

However, the ease of removal and potential for damage can vary depending on the surface condition. A soft smooth surface like a bench top, the vinyl usually comes off clean. If the surface is flaky or the paint has not cured properly before application you fill most likely see some minor damage to the surface upon removal.

The easiest way to remove the adhesive vinyl is to heat it slightly with a hair dryer to soften the glue and then pull.

The vinyl is designed as a DIY product. We offer great tutorials and are only a message away if you need any further guidance.
If you still would like someone else to install we recommend that you find a local sign writer.

If the vinyl is looked after it can last for years. Use light none abrasive cleaning products, silicon the edges if used in wet areas, protect the vinyl with chopping boards and worktop savers.
